One Swedish design firm has developed a sustainable coffee shop business model that may make it easier for millennials to become entrepreneurs. Wheely’s Café, developed by The Nordic Society For Invention and Discovery, are solar-powered mobile cafes on bikes. The design firm is currently raising money for the concept on Indiegogo.
For $1,800, an entrepreneur can purchase the entire operation, including coffeemaker, storage, bike and solar-powered battery. This is a sizable difference from, say, a Starbucks franchise which can be purchased for roughly $250,000 in Europe.
By taking away the cost of owning a storefront, hiring employees, utilities, maintenance and other overhead, the Nordic inventors are making entrepreneurship more appealing and attainable for global youth. The group hopes that by giving each the same name, Wheely’s Café, they can help to brand the mobile cafes and make them more recognizable to customers.
Each person that purchases their mobile business will get rights to a certain geographic location, free from other Wheely’s competitors. They will also receive things like legal advice and administrative support from the company.
Ultimately, the design firm hopes that Wheely’s can offer a new opportunity for work to those who may be struggling. It’s also a way for consumers to support sustainable coffee that leaves behind almost no carbon footprint.
